Yeeli Mui is a third-year PhD student in International Health. Originally from Bakersfield, CA, she received her BS in Public Health from the University of California, Irvine. Mui’s undergraduate thesis on the evaluation of obesity interventions in Southern California school districts set the path for her future endeavors in nutrition, food policy, and community health.

Mui’s research interests encompass social and built environmental influences on shaping obesity risk in distressed neighborhoods. She has experience in various lines of work -- public school interventions, community-based participatory research, health communications, food policy, and systems science -- that have provided Mui with different perspectives and an appreciation for the multifaceted nature of the obesity epidemic.

As part of the Global Obesity Prevention Center (GOPC) team, Mui leads the Policy Working Group for the B’More Healthy Communities for Kids obesity intervention trial. She also manages the development of agent-based models that simulate the dietary and physical activity behavior of individuals in a virtual environment. Mui is currently working on the development of an agent-based model of adolescents in the Baltimore City urban food environment, which also serves as a novel tool to facilitate communications with stakeholders and policymakers.

Mui is a trainee in GOPC’s Education and Training Program. She received her MPH in Health Policy at Yale University. In her spare time, Mui loves to play tennis and fill her kitchen with the smell of just about any kind of bread.
