Today is the first day of National Volunteer Week!
SOURCE, our Student Outreach Resource Center, has organized a number of activities and events.
SOURCE is a wonderful organization working with all three health profession schools on the East Baltimore Campus (public health, nursing, and medicine). Their mission is to provide academic and professional development opportunities through community outreach and service-learning partnerships with community-based organizations.
You can get an idea of the sort of opportunities they facilitate by the National Volunteer Week schedule above.
How can you get involved?
For those of you joining us this summer and fall, SOURCE has provided a handy checklist for involvement with community-based organizations. SOURCE has short- and long-term volunteer opportunities and distributes a weekly scoop on upcoming programs and events. They also host an Annual Community Involvement Fair each September.
The SOURCE Service Scholars Program enables health professional students to make a long-term (one academic year) commitment to a SOURCE partnering Baltimore community-based organization (CBO) or recognized service-based student group. Service Scholars receive a $2,000 stipend. Applications to be a SOURCE Service Scholar in 2013-2014 are due April 22, 2013.
