Online Science of Clinical Investigation Training Program
The online version of the Science of Clinical Investigation Training Program was designed specifically for clinical scientists around the world without physical access to the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health campus. While the method of instruction is different, the concept and requirements for the online SOCI program remain the same as the on-campus program.
All SOCI Training Program courses are taken non-credit. To earn the achievement award, students must actively participate in online discussions and complete all required readings and assignments. A grade of Pass (P) must be obtained. Completion of the entire series is required to receive the SOCI award, however, students can take individual courses for the purpose of personal development.
Participants who wish to complete the entire program online will take the following 4 course sequence:
All first time participants taking an online course from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health must complete the Introduction to Online Learning course. This course is a free, non-credit mini course that must be completed before you can enroll in any online courses. Please view the IOL schedule and do not wait until the last minute to register for this course.

* These courses must be taken in a particular sequence. Design of Clinical Studies is a prerequsite for Quantitative Analysis.
Participants may apply to the program at any point during the year; applications are reviewd on a rolling basis.
The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health’s Academic Year consists of four 8-week terms. For term dates, please view the current Academic Year Calendar.
External applicants to the online SOCI Training Program must complete the External Applicant (Non-Hopkins) Application Form. Please read the application instructions carefully. The following items must be included with your application:
- A copy of your most recent college/university degree transcripts
- A recommendation letter from supervisory personnel or employer
JHU employees need only to complete the JHU Applicant Application Form
The current tuition rate for courses at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is $1020 (USD) per credit; each SOCI course is equal to 3 credits. The cost per course is $3060 (USD). Payment must be included at the time of registration.
