Carlos D. Williams is a native of Georgia. He graduated with honors from Albany State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. He went on to earn his Doctorate of Medicine from Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. After Medical School, he completed his internship and residencies in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Williams then went to his first active duty tour in the U.S. Navy. As a Navy Physician, Dr. Williams has served in several capacities and has deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. While in Iraq, he served as Head of Pediatrics and cared for military personnel and Iraqi civilians. His unit became the first Navy medical command to construct and establish an Expeditionary Medical Facility in a combat zone.
Prior to joining the 2008 MPH/MBA class, Dr. Williams served as Deputy Director of the Enteric Diseases Program at the Naval Medical Research Center in Silver Spring, MD. He currently holds an appointment as Assistant Professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and is on staff in the Department of Internal Medicine at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.
While here at Hopkins, Dr. Williams works closely with the Boys of Baraka Youth Empowerment Fund, mentoring inner city males. He has focused his studies in Health Leadership and Management as well as in Humanitarian Assistance. Dr. Williams hopes that the sum of all of his experiences coupled with his newly gained skills from Hopkins will allow him to improve the quality of and access to health care both domestically and internationally. He will also continue to develop and launch a collaborative academic foundation designed to address the loss and lack of skilled professionals in the U.S. and underdeveloped nations. |
