Environmental Health Sciences

The DrPH in EHS is intended to prepare graduates for careers as senior-level professionals able to analyze and assess complex environmental risks and problems and to offer sound guidance and advice for their reduction. Graduates comprehend and integrate the many dimensions of environmental health sciences and apply these solutions through positions in industry, government or academia.

Norma Kanarek, PhD, MPH, associate professor. Interest area: public health surveillance, individual cancer risk and control factors, and population health research focused upon environmental and community factors.

Epidemiology

The DrPH in Epidemiology is intended to prepare graduates for careers as professional epidemiologists in a variety of governmental, industry and NGO settings. These graduates apply epidemiological analytical tools to diverse problems, like community assessment, disease surveillance, epidemic control, program evaluation and the translating of evidence into policy decisions and practice guidelines.

Health Policy & Management

The DrPH program offered in Health Policy and Management is focused in Health Care Management and Leadership.  The objective of the program is to prepare individuals for leadership positions in health care organizations.  The focus of the program is on measuring, monitoring and improving the clinical and financial performance of health services organizations, as well as training leaders for organizational change.  The program curriculum is based on the Malcolm Baldridge health criteria for performance execellence framework and targets those who have master's-level training related to health care management.  The DrPH in Health Care Management and Leadership is principally designed for part-time students working full-time during their enrollment in the program

International Health

The DrPH in international health prepares graduates for leadership positions in health policy, planning, management and evaluation in low- and middle-income countries or with disadvantaged populations.  Graduates of the program are expected to be public health practitioners who can comprehend and integrate knowledge across traditional academic disciplines; provide sound recommendations and advice to national and international agencies in public health; and communicate effectively with governments, academia, non-governmental organizations and the public.

David Peters, MD, MPH, DrPH, associate professor. Interest areas: the performance of health systems in low-income countries, poverty and health relationships, and innovations in organization, financing and delivery of health services.

Population & Family Health Sciences

The DrPH in PFHS prepares graduates for a variety of careers in organizations that consider their primary mission the improvement of health among populations across the lifespan, from infant, children and adolescents, through middle age and among women, to the elderly.
