The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH) and collaborators have been funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to develop a Medical Exam Program for former workers at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The purpose of the program is to provide free medical evaluations to former workers who were exposed to one of the following hazardous substances during their work at LANL:

To be eligible for a free medical exam, former workers must have:

  • Worked at the LANL site anytime between 1943 and the present,
  • Been significantly exposed to one of the agents listed above,
  • Been employed by one or more of the following employers:
    • University of California
    • Zia
    • Pan Am World Services
    • Johnson Controls International
    • Johnson Controls of Northern New Mexico
    • other subcontractors

The Program will offer the former workers either a one-time free medical exam with selected tests or a medical record review. The majority of exams will be offered to former workers who are eligible as determined by the Program. However, a limited number of exams will be provided to former workers who wish to receive an exam regardless of their eligibility status.
